Abbot Point Coal Terminal QLD

Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Protection System Design

Adani Group

The Port of Abbot Point is located 25 km north of Bowen in the Whitsunday Coast of Queensland. This existing port is one of Australia’s most significant emerging bulk coal ports. This was proposed for undergoing a major transformation into a port precinct of global importance. Adani Group made significant progress on infrastructure to support the port development. Coal is exported from the Abbot Point Port Terminal “T1” that is supplied by rail from the Newlands, Collinsville and Sonoma mines.

In addition to “T1” terminal, a new terminal “T0” was proposed that would double the Port of Abbot Point’s capacity from 25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 50 mtpa. The proposed terminal “T0” was proposed in three phases.

First phase was the subject of Fire Check Consultants (FCC)Fire Mitigation Risk Report. FCC report provided an overview of the existing and proposed projects, the common hazards and risks associated with the coal handling terminal and the proposed fire safety arrangements and design the water mist system (underground mines).
