Westfield Coomera is a new $470 million ‘greenfield’ development project under construction, set to be completed in late 2018. The project comprises of 140 new specialty stores, including Woolworths, Coles, Kmart, Target, and an Event Cinemas complex. The shopping centre will also include roof top PV solar arrays.
As the principal fire safety consultant, Fire Check Consultants (FCC) have been engaged to help deliverer certification for the new shopping centre, by facilitating the fire engineering brief and report process. This included consultation with stakeholders such as, the Building Certifier and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
FCC used a performance based fire safety engineering approach to develop solutions for building fire resistive levels, construction of fire-isolated passageways, and the use of glazing in fire separation and compartmentation.
To demonstrate the egress design in combination with engineered smoke management systems afforded occupants safe evacuation and fire-fighters safe intervention, CFD fire and smoke models were conducted.
