Fire Check Consultants were commissioned to provide fire engineering advice to solve the inadequate performance of a prescriptive smoke exhaust system fitted to the public theatre. The prescriptive design treated the theatre as one smoke zone.
The solution required three smoke zones to be formed inside the theatre, as follows –
- Over the performing stage area (the critical area);
- In front of the audience; and
- Over the audience.
Additional smoke testing confirmed adequate performance of the modified smoke exhaust system, which resulted in acceptance by the certifying authorities.
