Westfield North Lakes Stage 3 was a $170 million development project completed in 2016. Works included 60 new retail stores, a mall expansion, a Kmart store, an Event Cinema complex, a new fresh food market and a casual alfresco dining precinct. Fire Check Consultants facilitated the fire engineering brief process with the local fire authority and prepared the fire engineering report forming part of the certification for the project. The fire engineering design solutions formulated focused on rationalising building fire resistive levels, glazing in fire separation and compartmentation, and fire-isolated passageway construction and fire-isolated passageway construction. CFD fire and smoke models were used to validate that the egress design and smoke exhaust arrangements for the shopping centre achieved an appropriate level of occupant and fire-fighter safety.
