The 2 storey David Jones tenancy located at Westfield Garden City, was proposed to be refurbished and downsized to a single-level retail store. Level 1 David Jones space was planned to be reconditioned into new retail stores and a rear storage room. The building works for this project were assessed against the requirements of the NCC 2019 and Building Act 1975 transitional provisions. The objective of the transitional provisions were to ensure that the alterations do not unduly reduce the existing levels of fire safety within the building, with respect to occupant life safety, protection of adjacent properties and facilitating fire brigade intervention.
