Fire Check Consultants provided performance based fire safety engineered solutions for the following –
- New exit stair to be fire isolated;
- FRL f steel columns supporting the roof off the verandah;
- Unprotected roof structure; and
- Insufficient fire hydrant flows to meet Deemed-to-Satisfy requirements.
The engineered methods were based on the Fire Safety Engineering Guidelines – 2001 Edition. A deterministic quantitative analysis was employed to review the performance of exposed external steel columns under fire conditions. The method employed fire simulation modelling to determine if the critical temperature of exposed steel is reached or smoke temperature on the stairs reaches tenable limits for occupants. Hand calculations were used to determine the required minimum fire hydrant flows based on the calculated fire peak heat release rate.
All the issues were successfully resolved and successfully accepted by all stakeholders.
